Reviews about Globe@YVR
- 2 / 5By Claus LaundrupThe quality of the food is what saves this restaurant and prevents me from giving it only 1 star. Yes, it is a four or five star hotel with a very chic restaurant. The expectations vs. delivery is why I have deducted three stars from this review.
Let's start from the beginning. The Menu. It is as any other Vancouver restaurant. Nothing extraordinary or innovative with any of the dishes yet the prices being charged would normally indicate some sort of "FLARE". $50 for a 10 oz Ribeye with potatoes. Wow, that's really cutting edge, right?
I chose the seared scallops appetizer $22(ish) and pork belly with a squash ravioli $38. Pork belly is something I don't cook myself and was interested in how they handled it. If this were Earl's then I would say that they outdid themselves but this is not Earl's and they did as expected. A teacher would rate this as "meeting expectations". It wasn't a WOW! moment though, which is what you should be getting for this restaurant, hotel and the associated costs.
The wine. An Okanagan Pinot Noir was recommended by the very capable server for $114. I would say it tasted like a good California Pinot that should run around $20 @ BC Liquor stores. It was good but not $114 Amazing.
Overall "meeting expectations" is not what I was paying for in this restaurant. Dinner for 4 including one cocktail each and a bottle of wine was $450. Not including tip. The service was good, the food was hot and tasted good with some variations of colour and texture which was appreciated. Was it worth $450? Not so much.
I would not go againMay 13, 2017 - 4 / 5By Amir MithaNice restaurant. Really good dishes. A view of the mountainsApril 02, 2017
- 4 / 5By Dan FortinThe food is very good, however the portions are child sized and I left hungry. Not what you would expect for a $30 entree. Service was good. I am staying at the hotel for 2 more days and will be eating elsewhere.
Update:
Since my review, I was very pleased at how attentive the hotel and restaurant management were in addressing my concerns. Per my previous review, the food and service were very good. The Fairmont and Globe Restaurant have made things right with me now. I would recommend this hotel and restaurant to my friends and family.January 03, 2017 - 1 / 5By Amber LyonHorrible service. Appys were slow coming to the table, dinner took forever, and even dessert was about a half hour wait. I ordered the $60 tenderloin and the waitress didn't write down anything, served me a New York and then argued with me that I was wrong. The waitress had horrible customer service skills and should honestly not be working at an "upscale" restaurant. Service and wait time, I wish I could give zero stars.December 11, 2016
